13th annual Chili Cook-off and Barn Dance slated for Feb. 14-16

Plans are well under way for the 13th annual Chili Cook-off and Barn Dance, slated for Feb. 14-16 at the Ellis County Expo Center, U.S. Highway 287 North, Waxahachie. Join us for three days of CASI-sanctioned chili competition (Friday-Sunday), along with junior, local/novice and bean competitions Saturday. Admission is free all three days for the chili cook-offs.

A giant silent auction wraps up during Saturday night’s Barn Dance, which features dancing and a prime rib dinner (tickets purchased in advance). Also, Saturday night’s Barn Dance is when we draw the winning tickets for our huge six-item drawing.

Below are the details for a weekend full of family-friendly fun, food and entertainment. Join us!

Friday – Gates open at 10 a.m., with turn-in time for CASI chili at 8 p.m. ($18 entry)

Friday – The evening activities include three cash drawings (two for $100 and one for $50). Must be present to win; no purchase necessary. Sponsored by Wayne Boze.

Saturday – Gates open at 8 a.m. with turn-in time at 1 p.m. for CASI chili ($20 entry), local/novice chili ($16 entry), 50/50 beans ($10 entry) and CASI junior ages 8-17 chili ($10 entry). Local/novice chili competition is sponsored by Gary Estes Electric; CASI junior chili competition sponsored by Peggy Atwell. Silent auction opens; concessions available all day.

Saturday – Barn Dance from 6:30 p.m.-midnight, with music provided by The Marshall Argovitz Experience (DJ/emcee) and concessions available until midnight. General admission tickets $10 (in advance or at the door); general admission including prime rib dinner $30 (must be purchased in advance). VIP table sponsorships include prime rib dinner, beverages and dance tickets.

Saturday – The silent auction closes at 10 p.m. The six-item drawing also will be held for these items: pair of Southwest Airlines tickets, 12-gauge automatic shotgun, large flat screen TV, 20-quart Yeti Tundra cooler, 45-quart Yeti tundra cooler and a side of beef. Tickets are $100 for six chances or $25 for one chance. Only 900 chances will be sold.

Volunteers are needed throughout the weekend to assist with the event, including chili judges, concession stand workers and silent auction assistants.
